Author Sharai Erima is the lead attorney who recently negotiated
the
unprecedented Community Benefits Agreement involving the $3 billion
real estate development project that will bring Brooklyn the NBA
Nets
along with thousands of jobs and small business opportunities.
New York City's many cultures can be both integrated and polarized.
As a teenager born of Caribbean parentage in New York City, he sought
to firmly represent Pan African voices in the city of eight million
compelling stories. He has been reaching for this goal over the
next
20 years.
During his college days at Cornell University, Mr. Erima planned
on
amassing an education that would better serve community-based
organizations (CBOs) in New York City. After graduation, Mr. Erima
enrolled in the JD/MBA program at Northeastern University, home
of the
leading public interest law school in the country.
Mr. Erima's organizational philosophy, "Not-for-profit does
not mean
not profitable," attracted employment from various CBO service
providers. Following a brief stint in the employment-world, Mr.
Erima
formed Onyx Associates, LLC so that he may directly provide his
unique
form of legal and business consultation to local CBOs. His work
includes corporate legal formations, strategic business planning
and
contract negotiation. In 2002, he left his solo practice and
journeyed into the heart of rural West Africa to emotionally support
his fiancé who was volunteering in a mysteriously soul confronting
town.
Mr.
Erima plans to foster this dialogue through advocacy for the
construction of a Historic and Cultural Reclamation Centre in the
very
town the story takes place and will feature the following:
1.
Museum chronicling the legacy of this major slave-trading route.
2. Administrative office for area tours.
3. Guesthouse for visiting scholars and researchers.
Mr.
Erima is presently seeking CBOs, academic institutions, investors
and individuals committed to establishing the Historic and Cultural
Reclamation Centre.
